Increase Energy Efficiency with a Fully Functional AC
If you do own an air conditioner, then it is only a matter of time to be surprised by how much your electric bill has increased. Basically, this is a common scene on those who have such unit that has been in used for quite a long time. ACs that receive no maintenance are not able to hit its optimal performance and at the same time, the suspect why there is a rise in your electricity bill.
But there’s nothing to be worried about as there are several things that you can do in boosting the efficiency of your air conditioner.
Fortunately, the idea behind using cooling systems is not so complicated. On the other hand, you need to know that performing the adjustments as DIY is not that simple. Even with seasoned HVAC technicians, they are sometimes having a hard time in diagnosing cooling problems without utilizing specialized tools.
Anyway, when performing AC service, there are standards to be followed. The first thing that will be done is, cleaning the coils and performing check on the refrigerant’s pressure. Standard check consists of assessing the moving parts and even applying lubrication if necessary. A common case is, the refrigerant should not lose its pressure and it must not be filled up.
With regards to central air conditioner, the heater and AC are using the same ductwork. It is because of this why having a damper to be able to separate cooling and heating system. For this reason, be sure that the damper is still intact as it plays a vital role in lowering your AC bills. If you do have missing dampers however, then you are wasting significant amount of energy as cool or hot air is being dumped to wrong places. This is among the simplest and most basic fixes that your technician can do for your air conditioner.
At the same time, it is critical that you perform regular service and maintenance on the air conditioner. After all, this would not take much of your time. Then again, it will vary as per the part of the AC that has to be checked and maintained and the frequency of maintenance in between. If ever there’s a problem with the cooling maintenance, then you might have to perform a replacement to the actual unit.
In most cases this does not happen but if your unit is at least over a decade or has poor SEER rating, then considering to have it replaced would save you money in the long run.
